Zion Animation Setup & Diagnostics

Find the right clips. Test them on your character. Build one clean animation library.

v1.0 Available

One guided workflow from scattered packs to a tested library

Animation packs rarely contain every clip a character needs. Zion Animation Setup & Diagnostics searches multiple source folders together, recommends clips for each role, tests the selections on your own Humanoid character and copies the approved results into one safe, reusable library.

The seven-step wizard is designed for artists, first-time Unity users and developers who want clear guidance without giving up technical detail. Advanced tools remain available whenever you need them.

What it helps you do

  • Search thousands of clips across several unrelated animation packs in one pass
  • Choose Basic Movement, Third-Person, Combat or ZionTPS-oriented profiles
  • Add generic and environment interaction roles without making optional clips block completion
  • Rank candidates using naming, direction, locomotion intent, loop and rig evidence
  • Reject crouching, diagonal or otherwise unsuitable candidates for normal movement roles
  • Review Required, Recommended and Optional roles through a guided checklist
  • Preview every chosen clip on one character with Previous/Next, mouse orbit, zoom and Root Motion controls
  • Copy approved clips into two simple source folders while leaving purchased packs untouched
  • Generate a reusable setup profile and readable build report

Avatar readiness before animation troubleshooting

A bad Humanoid Avatar can make every unrelated animation twist in the same way. The Avatar Readiness Gate checks required limb mapping, shoulder and hip alignment and suspicious source poses before the workflow asks you to change individual clips.

  • Locate the character FBX and retest it without hunting through the Project window
  • Plain-language guidance for Rig → Configure Avatar → Pose → Enforce T-Pose
  • Character-wide fault reporting when several unrelated clips fail in the same way
  • Clip/source reporting when only one animation fails
  • Presets and recognition for Mixamo, Meshy/AccuRig and general Humanoid FBXs

Diagnostics that explain what to do next

Results use Passed, Advice, Review and Blocked states. Each measured issue explains what Zion noticed, why it matters and what to inspect next, so an expensive animation pack is not labelled broken because of a conservative editor measurement.

  • Missing or incompatible Avatars and rig types
  • Likely T-pose and retargeting faults
  • Floating, below-floor movement and ground-contact changes
  • Possible planted-foot sliding
  • Loop, root-transform and root-motion setup concerns
  • Controller-driven versus root-motion ownership conflicts
  • Animator controller, parameter and clip assignment problems
  • Ranked alternatives when a selected animation is unsuitable

Safe, non-destructive library building

  • Original animation packs are never moved, edited or deleted by the tool
  • Selected animation assets are copied together into Sources/Animations
  • Required Avatar support is copied into Sources/Dependencies
  • Duplicate filenames receive a source-pack prefix so nothing is overwritten
  • Generic FBXs may be converted only on curated copies, never in purchased source packs
  • Converted clips remain unverified until visually approved on the target character
  • A final checklist reminds you to test, restart Unity and read the report before removing any source pack manually

Honest limits

  • This is a setup, selection and diagnostic tool, not an animation editor
  • It does not rewrite animation curves or automatically correct foot sliding
  • Automated measurements are conservative and do not replace visual approval
  • No third-party characters or animation packs are included
  • Deleting or uninstalling original packs is always a manual decision after final project testing

Technical details and requirements

  • Editor-only Unity tool with no runtime component or build-size cost
  • Built for Unity 6; tested with Unity 6.0, 6.3 and 6.5
  • Requires a valid Humanoid character for retargeted preview and final testing
  • Works independently; ZionTPS is optional and not required
  • ZionTPS defaults use controller-driven movement with Root Motion off
  • Compatible with URP, HDRP and the Built-in Render Pipeline

Frequently asked questions

Does it require ZionTPS?

No. It works with a normal Unity Animator and Humanoid character. The ZionTPS profile and adapter are optional conveniences.

Can it use Generic animation FBXs?

It can attempt a Humanoid import on a copied FBX inside the curated library. The original pack is never changed, and the converted result remains marked for visual approval.

Will it fix floating or foot sliding automatically?

No. It identifies likely causes and points you to the relevant Avatar, root-transform or movement settings. It does not edit animation data.

Can I delete my original animation packs afterwards?

Only after the final library is verified, Unity has been restarted and the curated clips have passed a real project test. The tool creates copies and a report, but pack removal remains your decision.
